Contra la muerte | Guillermo Núñez, Gonzalo Rojas

Contra la muerte is a book by Guillermo Núñez structured around two poems by Chilean poet Gonzalo Rojas: Contra la muerte and Desde Abajo.

The book, which comes in a clamshell box and is printed entirely in silkscreen, has loose pages in which Guillermo rewrites the poem by hand and mixes it with his own drawings, united by Núñez’s characteristic line.

The rewriting of the poem is not literal, since the artist takes the liberty of reorganizing it and mixing it with other quotations from the poet. In some cases, the drawings are intervened in each copy, becoming original works that mutate in each of its 41 copies.

Each copy of the print run is signed by both authors.

Gonzalo Rojas (1916-2011) was awarded the National Literature Prize in 1992 and Guillermo Núñez (1930-2024) received the National Visual Arts Prize in 2007.
