Todo en ti fue naufragio (popular version) | Guillermo Núñez

Popular edition of the artist’s book Todo en ti fue naufragio, published in 2003.

Todo en ti fue naufragio (Everything in you was a shipwreck) is a logbook that emerged during the realization of a diptych imagined from the reading of the poem La canción desesperada by Pablo Neruda, a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the poet’s birth.

Núñez begins the story on Thursday, October 17, 2002, when he recalls that “La Canción desesperada” was published when Neruda was 20 years old, while the artist remembers that the first time he read “Veinte Poemas de Amor” he was the same age. At the beginning of the realization of this diptych, he reads the poem again:

«Todo te lo tragaste , como la lejanía.
Como el mar, como el tiempo.
Todo en ti fue naufragio!»

Excerpt from Pablo Neruda’s”‘La canción desesperada”.

This becomes a starting point for a daily work that mixes drawings and texts, in which Núñez analyzes the poem, recalls episodes of his youth and quotes authors that mark him. The work was finished on January 27, 2003.
