In March 2020, 5 months after the beginning of the first protests of the social outbreak in Chile, the National Institute of Human Rights (INDH) counted 460 cases of eye trauma across the country. Of these, 35 corresponded to situations of rupture or total loss of the eye and 425 to other eye injuries. Five years after October 18, the state is still indebted to eye trauma victims. Within 5 years of the uprising, 4 people with eye trauma have decided to take their own lives. State neglect, neglect, injustice, impunity. Ophthalmic Solution: There is no prescription for darkness when everything is poison.

Carlos Soto Román (1977) is a Chilean poet and translator. He is a pharmaceutical chemist by profession and holds a Master’s degree in Bioethics. He lived for five years in Philadelphia, USA. To date he has published about 10 books of poetry and 7 translations.
